02—Club M is the second episode (stylized as "Order") of the Hellsing anime series produced by Gonzo. It originally premiered in Japan on Fuji TV on October 17, 2001, and subsequently aired in the United States on October 11, 2003, on Starz Encore Action. This episode is helmed by Kaoru Suzuki, with a screenplay written by Chiaki J. Konaka and animation direction by Hironobu Saitou. It is among the three episodes included in the Rescript I DVD.
Seras Victoria struggles to realize that her former life as a D-11 officer does not exist and that she is now a vampire under the employ of the Hellsing Organisation. However, her thoughts are interrupted as she, Arucard, and a unit of Hellsing Organisation commandos are deployed to track down and kill two vampire teenagers who murder families with small guns, drinking the blood and using it to write heretical messages. Seras has a crisis of conscience when she is ordered to kill one of the two teenage culprits.
Synopsis
Prologue
A woman in an alleyway catches Kim's attention
On a notably stormy night, a group of friends exits a club. On a nearby rooftop, Seras Victoria is positioned under the supervision of a commander, Peter Fargason. She readies her sniper rifle (and accidentally injures herself by touching a piece of silverware), but Fargason reprimands Seras for being too slow for her setup, while one of the women in the group, Kim Chapman, stands behind, observing a lone person in an alleyway in front of her worriedly. Her friend, Anthony, arrives behind her and advises her to ignore the individual and join the others in the car.
Seras struggles to bring herself to pull the trigger
The woman vanishes from sight until she unexpectedly appears from below and latches her hand onto Kim's ankles, catching her and Anthony by surprise. She reveals herself to be a ghoul. Seras is given the command to fire but struggles to pull the trigger. Consequently, Fargason is forced to instruct a nearby sniper, Gareth Henderson, to take the shot in her stead. The gunshot rings out, and the ghoul bursts apart before Kim, who, upon seeing the maggots spilling from the ghoul's neck, lets out a scream of horror.
Seras sits disappointed in her struggles, apologizing to Fargason
Seras, feeling disappointed by her struggle, apologizes to Fargason for being unable to secure the kill. In response, Fargason comments on the saying that those who fail at first often live longer, sarcastically noting the irony of Seras being a vampire and, as such, would keep on living until she is finally fed up. Hellsing Organisation Forces would soon fill the place and secure everyone, cleaning up the crime scene with the scattered maggots killed.
Story
After being reminded of her treatment akin to a guest, Seras stares in contempt
In the Hellsing Headquarters, the military forces are dismissed by Fargason. Subsequently, Fargason addresses Seras, who firmly insists on not being regarded as someone special. Fargason stumbles over his words, and their conversation is interrupted by Walter C. Ddollneazz, a retainer of the Hellsing Family, after Seras is left at a loss for words regarding the remark that she is "hard to deal with." Fargason then leaves Seras at the hands of Walter, who informs her that he will provide for her daily needs.
Walter introduces himself to Seras in the entrance to the basement below the Headquarters
Following this, Walter escorts Seras down from the vast mansion of the Headquarters down to the sublevel basement area; here he makes his introduction. As they navigate the stairs to her new room, Seras expresses her insecurity after being labeled as "hard to deal with," a statement Walter refutes, explaining that the concern lies in minor tasks she struggles with, like managing silverware. Seras tries to play around the explanation, but Walter merely stares at her in response.
A heretical message written in blood, calling out to the "No-Life King"
She is warned to not go out during daylight before being introduced to her new room. She eagerly leaps onto the bed, only to inadvertently press a button, at which point she realizes that the bed is, in fact, a coffin. Walter, appearing worried, tells Seras to shut the lid during the daytime for better sleep. A house in Birmingham, which had been ransacked and was adorned with blasphemous inscriptions on the walls written in blood, prompted the police to conduct an investigation amidst a hectic sequence of events.
Integra's cold and distant stare at Seras
Seras attempts to rest but fails, then ventures outside her room to the main hall of the Headquarters, where she encounters two doormen. Integral Hellsing suddenly warns Seras against mindlessly sucking on the blood of humans, provoking Seras to lash out momentarily at Integra for suggesting such thoughts. Integra gazes at her in silence before making her way back to her office, upon which Arucard is summoned once she is seated. She puffs on a cigar before delivering a sarcastic comment regarding Arucard's behavior.
Integra makes a sarcastic comment on Arucard's actions
In answer, Arucard states that it was Seras' own choice to embrace vampirism. Integra reminds Arucard to train her well. Following this, she tells Arucard about a murder spree of entire families on Route 17 in Birmingham, where their blood was drained and blasphemous messages were left written in blood. Arucard observes, "These cheap vampires are cropping up more and more." In a cold tone, Integra informs Arucard that making analytical observations is not part of his job. Abruptly, he departs, intending to return tomorrow night.
Leif and Jessica make light of their murderous rampage
Seras enters her room and discovers a bag of medical blood placed on a table before her, left for her. At the sight, she smiles, but in the wake of regaining her composure, she knocks the blood off the table, after which she struggles with herself. On a highway, two teenagers, Leif and Jessica, weave through traffic while riding on a moped. In a residence, they contemplate their future following a deal they had made in which, after the killing of nine more individuals, they would achieve everlasting youth and immortality.
An object impaled onto a corpse cast an upside-down cross shadow
The mere thought of such fantasy prompts Leif and Jessica to burst into hysterical laughter as they proceed to desecrate the corpses of the victim while engaging in intimacy. In the evening at the Hellsing Headquarters, Seras Victoria walks into a practice range teeming with Hellsing troops, turning one curious head around. She approaches one of the cabinets to retrieve a weapon, but Gareth intervenes and presents her with a large, 13.7mm rifle.
Gareth advises Seras to precisely target the heart
This startles Seras, who first believes they were merely teasing her until she actually held it herself at the pressure, realizing she did not sense the weapon's heaviness. Gareth clarifies Seras' curiosity, explaining that the total weight is 33lb, not counting the magazine. With blunt confidence, she fires it indiscriminately, eliciting a reaction from Gareth, who advises her instead to focus solely on the heart—gesturing towards her chest—given that their target is the undead, rather than a human.
Walter informs Integra of the current status of the blockade on Route 17
Seras is annoyed; however, they are suddenly called into action as Leif and Jessica begin their escapade on the highway. On the way to the ACP, Seras sees Fargason and Integra having a conversation. In the shooting range, Integra and Walter deliberate on the subject (while she practices on the shooting range herself), deriding the disordered nature of the two vampires. She poses the question to Walter about whether he would like to venture out into the field again, to which Walter replies with disinterest, expressing a desire to continue serving her as her butler, a position that already pleases him.
Arucard observes the pair
Arucard meticulously observes, then unleashes his abilities on the pair, casting an illusion that malfunctions their headlights before they are subsequently transported into an endless, red tunnel swarming with ghouls following a blinding flash of light. The pair notices Arucard in their way and makes a split-second decision to run him over; however, he draws his gun and fires, knocking them off the moped. Accordingly, Arucard mocks the pair for their tumultuous endeavors, demanding to know the rationale behind their rampage, and diminishes the two, all while teleporting around.
Seras opens her "Third Eye," enabling her to perceive distant views clearly without the use of a scope
Furious, Leif brandishes his submachine gun and fires at Arucard's shoulder, yet Arucard merely laughs and grotesquely heals his injury, then draws his 454 Casull and swiftly eliminates Leif following a short standoff. Observing Leif's disintegration, Jessica panics and runs away towards Seras' position unknowingly. Arucard allows Seras to eliminate her, releasing the illusion. She receives the command from Fargason but finds it difficult to fire because of Jessica's human likeness; nevertheless, she ultimately succeeds in pulling the trigger after a second prompt from Fargason, killing Jessica. Proud, Fargason welcomes Seras to Hellsing.
An exchange with Arucard leaves her speechless and resentful
As the unit prepares for withdrawal after receiving an order by Fargason, Seras is approached by Arucard, who addresses her as "Police Girl," prompting Seras to respond with irritation, asking Arucard to refer to her by her real name. He smiles, overlooking her request, and continues to remind her of her condition—a being who can never walk under the sun—catching Seras off guard. He urges her to drink blood, or else her body will weaken. He commands her to listen to his order before vanishing, leaving Seras alone to struggle with her personal conflicts.

Manga/Anime Differences
- Seras Victoria's training is thoroughly more expanded upon with the addition of several new key characters:
- Peter Fargason;
- Gareth Henderson;
- Along with the expanded military section of the Hellsing Organisation.
- As such, several new sequences of Seras interacting with the military are introduced.
- Walter is introduced way earlier in the anime, whereas in the manga he was introduced amidst the Badrick fiasco.
- Rather than having their initial meeting occur offscreen, Walter and Seras spend several minutes on screen together, during which he presents Seras with her new room located in the basement of the Hellsing Headquarters.
- The murderous duo is given a name, and additional scenes featuring them have been made.
- A new interaction between Arucard and Integra, who discuss the case in their room.
- As a result, the dialogue between Integra and Chief Malfas regarding the strategy to eliminate the duo en route and her firsthand witness to the blasphemous messages are removed. Chief Malfas, as a character, is also omitted.
- A new sequence of Integra training in the target range, subsequently conversing with Walter about the progress concerning the "Bonnie and Clyde" matter.
- The manner in which Alucard eliminated the boy has been altered, as the anime adopts a less action-driven tone, relocating the scene from a house to Alucard's red tunnel that he had the duo imagine. However, Seras' killing of Jessica remains largely unchanged, even though Fargason has assumed the role of the one who strongly encourages Seras to embrace her vampiric instincts and eliminate Jessica.
- Also, Seras' attire is changed. While the anime had Seras in her Hellsing military outfit since she was recruited, the manga first had Seras in a black shirt, baggy pants, and gloves.
- A scene depicting the aftermath at the location involving the Hellsing military, Seras, and Arucard is added.
- The scene in which Integra suspects that a particular group is responsible for the recent surge of vampiric assaults has been omitted.
Trivia
- The episode title is derived from the third chapter of the manga, "Murder Club," which itself is derived from a 1986 video game.
- Leif and Jessica are referred to using a codename that is inspired by the notorious American outlaws Bonnie and Clyde.
