ELEVATOR ACTION ⑤《Erebētā Akushon-go》is the sixth chapter of Hellsing: Volume 3, and the overall eighteenth chapter of the Hellsing manga created by Kohta Hirano. It is the fifth part to Elevator Action.
Summary
While The Major watches gleefully, he expresses that Alucard's superb declaration of war was what Millennium must aspire towards: dancing a line between life and death, existing on a bridge between madness and sanity. The Professor's concerns regarding the old opera men back at the Panther's Den are quickly brushed off by The Major's confidence that they can do nothing. Alucard demands Tubalcain Alhambra, who shows up and subsequently engages in a destructive battle with the vampire. Mass casualties and the blood of both soldiers and civilians alike are spilled as the two vampiric titans duel along the exterior of the hotel-turned-battlefield.
Synopsis
Looking at Alucard's declaration of war, The Major praises Alucard's actions as he expresses that it is so "wicked" and "horrid" that it gives him (The Major) "shivers." He continues by stating that the artistry is what they, Millennium, must aspire towards in that it is dancing in a line between life and death while simultaneously existing on a bridge between madness and sanity, stating that Alucard seems lively as ever and that he is calling from the darkness, in which he refers to Alucard as "unhuman (like them)" and their "undead comrade." Meanwhile, The Professor expresses his concerns regarding the old opera house men, saying that they must be quite angry with their (Millennium's) actions, but The Major brushes it off by telling The Professor to let them be angry, as they have no means of stopping The Major and his men. He then questions if anyone can really stop them, and insanity soon takes over as he says that he can hear the war orchestra, the mixed chorus of agonized cries, which he deems "nostalgic."
As Alucard stands atop the Hotel Rio entrance steps, he demands the mastermind come out, or he has to fill the place "with the dead" in order for that to happen as the soldiers and press watch in horror. Afterwards, Tubalcain steps in amongst the crowd to formally show himself to Alucard. With a joyful voice, he says Alucard's meal must be magnificent as Alucard watches, amused. Tubalcain then properly introduces himself as "Tubalcain Alhambra," and by those close to him, he is referred to as "The Dandy." Alucard then asks if he was the perpetrator that sent in the GATE officers, which Alucard calls a "pitiful bunch." Tubalcain confirms that was the case but explains that they were there because their foolish superiors wanted "eternal life" badly enough to sacrifice all their own men. Entertained, Alucard comments that they are fools beyond redemption and states that eternity does not exist in this world.
Tubalcain, however, remarks that even the group proved useful for him, although just a little, asking (in a gloating manner) how many special bullets Alucard has in that he wasted it on the GATE officers. Alucard smiles and tells him to stop boasting, to which Tubalcain summons an uncountable amount of Playing Cards surrounding him. He proclaims that what happens next is, "Now [Millennium], take [Alucard's] life," as he continues by stating that the time has come for Alucard to be enumerated into nothing more than one of their insignificant samples. He then sends forth the Playing Cards over to Alucard's gun, blocking it as he throws down a Card, which causes an explosion, briefly catching Alucard off guard, who comments that he should have known it was Millennium, remarking that they did not learn a thing from being destroyed once, but says that it is only natural that it is he who has to fight them.
In response, Tubalcain throws forward two pieces of Card that Alucard evades, landing near the many officers and reports before briefly dodging another hail of Cards, resulting in people being caught in the crossfire of the battle. In retaliation, Alucard fires at Tubalcain with the .454 Casull, only for Tubalcain to dodge the bullets as the officers and reporters were accidentally killed as a result. A Card thrown by Tubalcain causes a small explosion that throws cars away, and many more civilians, officers, and press people die until Alucard manages to shoot Tubalcain in the head at close proximity. However, he is caught off guard as it is revealed to only be a duplicate created by the Playing Cards; later, Tubalcain appears behind Alucard and slices him down before summoning small sets of Cards that explode. As smoke clears out, Tubalcain is surprised to see that Alucard is nowhere to be found, later spotting him hanging onto a wall and climbing up to the roof.
As a response, Tubalcain jumps onto the wall and walks forward slowly, bragging that the vampire Alucard is "not such a big deal." Meanwhile, at the camp, the officials inform them that Tubalcain had entered the battle himself, which subsequently causes one of them to worry about the deal if he gets killed. Pip Vernedead, disguised as a soldier, sneaks into the camp and shoots all of them down, killing them cleanly and accurately. Afterwards, he plants a bomb and detonates it once he gets out. He throws down the mask and proceeds to smoke a cigarette, commenting that he might be due for a raise and figuring that he should find a helicopter.
Up on top of Hotel Rio's roof, Alucard bleeds continuously and notices that it would not stop, observing that there is more to Tubalcain and his Cards than meets the eye, finding it incredibly fascinating while he regenerates his arm. He laughs and is reminded at the prospect that he is fighting the Nazis again, until then Tubalcain catches up and appears, asking if he is prepared and telling Alucard to go back to his homeland: the depths of hell. However, he is unnerved when Alucard responds with a maniacal giggle, asking him, "What is so funny?" Alucard answers that he is happy to find out that dreadful idiots like Millennium still exist today and figures out that it is the kampfgruppe of unhumans led by "The Mad Major," remarking that the world is still brimming with madness. Standing under the moon, he invites Tubalcain, "Let's have a little song and dance," then states that he will have Tubalcain squealing like a pig.
