Arthur pleads for his younger brother's support to Integra

In 1989, Arthur Hellsing's disease made him bedridden. On his deathbed, he was surrounded by family and friends but particularly focused on his daughter, Integra Hellsing, telling her that she will become the new head of the family and be in charge of the Hellsing Agency once he dies. Shakily, he moved his arm towards his younger brother, Richard Hellsing, and pleaded for him to provide much-needed support for Integra.

Three days later, the situation had drastically changed, and Richard Hellsing had sent his men to find Integra and kill her on sight in order to take the family headship, being incredibly furious at his brother's decision after waiting 20 years for his death. On the vents above, Integra eavesdrops, insulting her uncle, and soon heads out for the forgotten dungeons of the headquarters after remembering her father's promises that "one of the fruits of the Hellsing family's labors" will be her protection.

Corpse revael

Richard grew more and more desperate before he was reminded of the dungeon and so predicted that Integra would be hiding out there. Integra opened the door, entering the dungeons where she found a dried-out corpse sitting next to her. Frightened, she began to wonder if that corpse was the means of her protection, having expected a "knight" who would protect her, soon beginning to cry. The door to the dungeons was then slammed open by one of Richard's men. She questioned her uncle's decision, but he reaffirmed it, and in a fit of anger, he grazed Integra's shoulder with a bullet from his pistol that splattered blood over the corpse's face. He then stated that he would not make her death quick for wasting his time but was left stunned after hearing a noise coming from the corpse.

The corpse was alive and began licking Integra's blood on the floor, soon breaking the restraints, prompting Richard's men to carry out the orders from their master—who was not made aware of the corpse by his own brother—to kill the mysterious vampire. The vampire plunged his hand, grappling one of the men's heads, tearing it in half, and began drinking from the pouring blood. Throwing the head to the floor, the vampire would then scream as Richard's men desperately went for their guns, to which the vampire then killed them all with ease in mere seconds, slicing one of them, decapitating and dismembering the others.

In moments of frenzy, Richard attempted to shoot the vampire, but his arm was sliced off, dropping him to the floor, screaming in pain. The vampire walked over to Integra and subsequently bowed down, asking her for his bidding. Integra was left shellshocked, questioning her father's actions in keeping a vampire (Hellsing's ancient enemies) for the purposes of research. Richard crawled over to the gun and fired at Integra, stating that Hellsing is his. However, Alucard blocked the shot, remarking that he is unfit to be the family's head. Integra picked up the gun, steadied it over Alucard's shoulder, and aimed at Richard, which scared him. Integra asked for the vampire's name, to which he replied, "Alucard," as that had been the name by which her lineage referred to him. She then fired, killing Richard.

In 1999, Seras trains with Alucard; he sees her missing each shot, shooting normally like a human would do, to which Alucard orders her to not shoot like a human and to forget all the habits she had learned previously as such. Instead, Alucard tells her to shoot like she has another eye on her forehead. A third eye. In order to provide an example, Alucard then points his .454 Casull towards the target practice sheet, far, far away. Seemingly seeing nothing, Seras complains, yet Alucard states that he sees it. Then he proceeds to fire multiple rounds, precisely hitting the torso of the target, which shocks Seras.

Near them, Integra reads a newspaper. Reminiscing about the time they had met and how it has been ten years since then, Alucard comments about how it is such a rarity to witness Integra losing herself within her memories. Only after he was reminded about the time they had first met, Alucard poked fun at that, implying that she was getting old. In a fit of rage, Integra shouts at them only for Alucard again to make fun of her.
