SOLDIER OF FORTUNE ③ is the tenth chapter of Hellsing: Volume 6, and the overall forty-seventh chapter of the Hellsing manga created by Kohta Hirano. It is the third part of Soldier of Fortune.
Summary
Realizing that this was all a well-conjured illusion, Seras Victoria quickly grabs a weapon and fires at Zorin Blitz after a hasty and failed attempt at trying to assist the Wild Geese in understanding the illusion. Multiple rounds were fired, one grazing Zorin, managing to stagger and shatter her illusion. However, the Last Battalion had already made considerable progress in invading the Hellsing Headquarters, forcing the Wild Geese to regroup and Pip Vernedead to formulate a plan for a holdout.
Synopsis
Zorin is grazed by bullets sent by Seras
In the midst of the illusionary mansion being destroyed, Seras Victoria aims the Baerlks with her third eye and fires at Zorin Blitz consecutively. One of the rounds manages to graze her cheeks, therefore staggering her and breaking the illusion, setting the Wild Geese free. The aghast Wild Geese continue to be confused with their surroundings, prompting Seras to inform Pip Vernedead of the illusion conjured by sorcery. Zorin Blitz smirks and compliments Seras for seeing through the illusion, but remarks that she was too late; one member of Zorin's vanguard breaks through the window and kills multiple Wild Geese forces.
Seras kills one of Zorin's troops
The invasion was subsequently stopped by Seras, who caught the vampire in the mouth with her Baerlks before firing. Vernedead, stunned, worriedly says that they are in "deep shit" as their frontal defense is "toast." He was then informed by the entranceway post that the troops were storming the doors, invading the Hellsing Headquarters through the use of knives as stepping stones to avoid landmines. Zorin hysterically laughs, stating that they will not spare any of the Wild Geese, ordering a swift kill. Vernedead orders an assembly of the unit and Seras to restock her gears. Vernedead informs Seras that the Wild Geese will hold out in the hallways of the headquarters; he assigns her duties as the offense while the Wild Geese are the defense.
Vernedead attempts to steal Seras' first kiss
Vernedead tells Seras that she is the Wild Geese's trump card, cautioning Seras to kill Zorin and her forces before they kill the Wild Geese. One of the Geese inappropriately smacks Seras' butt; they then say that they are counting on her. Subsequently, Vernedead orders Seras to close her eyes; she opens her eyes to see Vernedead's attempt to kiss her. Seras panics and questions Vernedead's actions, while he reels in embarrassment as his crew calls Vernedead out for the attempt before lining up and waiting for Seras' kiss, causing Seras to presume them as "ignorant clots." Vernedead then tells Seras not to die before parting with each other.
Seras departs
Seras goes on her way, while Vernedead remarks, "She's a good girl." He continues by proclaiming that, "If you let a girl like her die, you're a disgrace as a man, you're hellbound," a sentiment that his crew agrees with. Vernedead apologizes before telling the Wild Geese to think of the Hellsing Headquarters as a graveyard, a place where they lay down their lives. He readies his weapon and then invites his men, "Let's go and die, dogs. Let's die while yelling 'fuck, fuck.' As we take gut-shots, as we writhe in agony."
