DEAD ZONE ②《Deddozōn-ni》is the second chapter of Hellsing: Volume 2, and the overall eighth chapter of the Hellsing manga created by Kohta Hirano. It is the second part to Dead Zone.
Summary
The siege of the Hellsing Headquarters continues; Jan Valentine informs Luke Valentine that the first and second floors had been completely wiped out, and only the third is left; later, Luke departs to find Alucard. This hostile takeover was unprepared, causing Integra Hellsing to be relentlessly criticized by her peers, except for Hugh Irons. Walter C. Dornez and Seras Victoria arrive through the vents and plan to turn the tables around in this invasion, as Walter goes on ahead to face Jan while Seras provides support. In the meantime, Alucard awaits Luke's presence.
Synopsis
After seizing the first and second floors, Jan Valentine calls his brother, Luke, on the phone about his status. Impressed, Luke tells Jan to proceed as planned and to not let him down; he then tells Jan that he is moving towards the basement. Luke, overconfident, questions Alucard's capabilities and plans to see what he can do. Meanwhile, in the Round Table meeting, the council is moved into a frenzy as Shelby M. Penwood demands an explanation from Integra Hellsing, who calmly informs him that the enemy is coming soon; this nonchalant answer rather fuels Penwood, who is calmed down by Hugh Irons, who states that the important thing to do is to defend themselves if the time comes. Integra agrees with the assessment.
In the midst of a tense discussion, Seras Victoria drops from the vents, accidentally landing on the hopeless Penwood, who gets concussed. Seras apologizes, and Walter C. Dornez drops down, who also apologizes for being late. Nonetheless, Integra was glad that they made it to the room. Walter reports that their defenses have almost been annihilated and comments that the scene resembles "Hell," prompting Integra to question if this is the end for them, to which Walter proclaims that it is not. He says that compared to what the first Sir Hellsing had to deal with a century ago, it is not comparable. Walter then devises the plan and heads out with Seras to fight Jan.
In Integra's office, Jan causes a ruckus as he comments about the class division in England and Integra's smoking overpriced cigars. This fueled Jan's anger and hatred, to which he says that he would not let her die easy. As he strides through the hallway, expressing what he would do to Integra, he is stopped by Walter walking through a door from the left side of the hallway. His confusion culminated in a shock when a piece of his cigar and one of his ghoul army were sliced in half. Walter comments about how he is not as good as he used to be, subsequently introducing himself right after. In haste, Jan commands his ghoul to shoot him. Walter swiftly dodges and covers behind a smoke as he sets up the directions of his Monofilament Wires. Remarking about the slowness of ghouls, he then pulls the wires, which kills the frontline of Jan's battalion, and afterward threatens Jan. In response, Jan nervously laughs as he says that he was starting to think that it was just too easy, then orders his ghouls to command a defensive position, lining up the shields.
In retaliation, Walter orders Seras on the backline to fire, to which Seras' Harkonnen immediately plowed through multiple ghouls in a straight line. Walter then commands Seras to switch the rounds for an explosive one, which causes the immediate wipeout of Jan's army upon firing. However, in the midst of the explosion, Jan uses the momentum caused by the explosion to leap over behind Walter, blowing off the door Walter used to cover himself with a single kick, and points his weapon at Walter. However, Seras sneaks up on and disarms Jan, putting him in a hold that she learned when she used to be a policewoman; the technique impressed Walter. The strong grip of Seras' hold causes Jan to ask about her nature. Walter then proceeds to interrogate Jan, who says that they were only told to do two things and that "Right about now, [Jan's] big brother's... kickin' the undead shit outta Alucard."
