DEAD ZONE ③ 《Deddozōn-san》is the third chapter of Hellsing: Volume 2, and the overall ninth chapter of the Hellsing manga created by Kohta Hirano. It is the third part to Dead Zone.
Summary
Jan Valentine's explanation and revelation shock Walter C. Dornez. Thereafter, Luke Valentine blows off a door leading to the staircase to the hidden basements within the Hellsing Headquarters, demanding Alucard to come out. As he walks down the staircase, he is met by Alucard, who had been waiting for him since the beginning of the siege. After a short introduction, the two battle as Luke grows more and more confused over Alucard's non-reaction to his attacks. Meanwhile, Jan catches both Seras Victoria and Walter off-guard with the ghouls of the Hellsing Agency military, promptly shoves Seras aside, and is free from the hold. The siege of the Hellsing Headquarters continues.
Synopsis
Jan's hysterical laughter freaks Seras out; Jan then explains that they were ordered to pulverize the Round Table Council and wipe out the vampire Alucard, to which Walter is shocked. As Jan giggles, he then remarks that his big brother, Luke, is "erasing Alucard from any and all existence." Subsequently, Luke bursts through the door leading to the basements of the Hellsing Headquarters. After the smoke clears out, he demands Alucard to come out of hiding and further explains that even if Alucard was hiding, he can still sense his powerful presence from the basement.
While walking down the staircase, he urges Alucard to come out. However, he is shocked to see Alucard at the end of the hallway sitting on his chair. Alucard explains that he was simply tired of waiting, not hiding. Luke smirks and pulls out his weapon, suggesting to them to start fighting, to which Alucard smiles in response. Luke claims that he has been waiting a long time for a showdown with Alucard. Crouching and preparing his stance, Luke then lunges towards Alucard after ricocheting himself off the ground 11 times before reaching Alucard. Promptly, Alucard has the .454 Casull pointed towards Luke's chest, while Luke has his M1 Garand pointed at Alucard's head at point-blank range.
Hearing Alucard's compliments, he suggests to Alucard that he should not think of Luke as another one of the "instants" that Alucard has fought, proclaiming that he will replace Alucard as the new "number one." After both set off each other's shot, Luke is sent to the floor while Alucard is struck backwards. As smoke clears the room, both are seen laughing. Then, Luke pulls out his second M1 Garand and shoots Alucard in the head. In retaliation, Alucard emptied his .454 Casull as Luke dodged each and every shot and backed away, impressing Alucard, while Luke reminded him to not treat Luke like all the other instants he has faced and stated that he has more abilities than Alucard.
Meanwhile, in the hallways leading up to the conference room, Walter continues his interrogation, demanding Jan's (along with his brother's) identity and who turned them into vampires. However, Jan carries on with his sarcastic remarks, ticking Walter off, to which Jan claims that Walter is senile. Near the entrance of the hallway, the Hellsing army has turned into ghouls. This revelation stunned Walter and Seras, leaving a room for Jan to escape the grip, which he proceeds to do and shoves Seras away. Jan walks towards the hallway entrance and hopes that they would enjoy the "cannibalism show."
As Walter is appalled and staggered with what he is witnessing, Jan leaps over Walter and makes a run over to the council room while Seras is caught by a ghoul and is then dragged into the crowd. After a short realization, Walter retaliates and tries to grab Jan's arm with his Monofilament Wires. While successful, Jan forces himself out of the grip and rips his arm out, runs to the council room, and barges through the door. In spite of his efforts, Jan is met with prepared council members pointing their pistols towards the door. Integra Hellsing welcomes Jan as they open fire on Jan, sending him to the wall. Looking out through the door, Integra is stunned.
Luke cleanly and easily dodges another shot from the .454 Casull, impressing Alucard and making him commend Luke's reflexive abilities, which flattered Luke, who told him to "save it." Alucard regenerates from his wounds, stands up, and now treats Luke as an actual treat. He comments about how he had not had any fun in ages and considers Luke to be even above "Category A" vampires. However, Luke is baffled at the sight of Alucard's act in how he retaliates, not even trying to dodge Luke's shots, and at one point, he thought that he might be immortal, to which Luke proclaims that there are no immortals in the world. He concludes that Alucard is acting fine but, in reality, is hurt. Alucard proceeds to open the restriction to Level One, stating that he will teach Luke how Real Vampires do battle.
Alucard's body morphs and shapeshifts into otherworldly beings, freaking Luke out. Until then, his head and arms drop to the floor, and he takes the shape of a multiple-headed Black Dog. As his head melts into centipedes, Alucard leaps towards Luke and strikes; Luke dodges but is then met with a dog's head near his face and lets out a scream as Alucard's face morphs in the dog's mouth, laughing. Luke then attempts to run away as Alucard lets his arm out of the dog's mouth and aims at Luke with the Jackal.

- The original Japanese publication of this chapter appeared in the 46th issue of the Young King OURs magazine, an issue that was the first to feature a front cover with Hellsing characters.
